Varicose and Spider Vein Treatment Options

During your initial visit, one of our experienced doctors will perform an exam and gather information regarding your symptoms. In some cases, an ultrasound study of your legs may be necessary. At that point a specific treatment plan will be designed for your particular needs. We can help you to love your legs again. Call us today at (734) 432-7662 to set up an appointment with one of our vein specialists. Our treatment options include:

Injection Sclerotherapy
Injection sclerotherapy, a very proven technique with little discomfort, is when a sclerosing agent (a high concentrate salt solution is used at our clinic) is injected into the unhealthy vein. It closes the vein down and eventually dissolves into the body.

Laser Ablation/Endovenous Laser Therapy
For those who meet certain criteria (based on your ultrasound study), endovenous laser therapy is a non-surgical method of resolving the effects of varicose veins. Lasers are a proven means of treating many medical conditions because of their inherent precision, reliability and safety. The application of lasers to the treatment of varicose veins is a welcome, non-surgical alternative and is performed right in our office!

Surgery
Using proven surgical techniques to remove larger varicose veins remains an option today. This technique is used when veins are irregularly shaped or too deep for effective laser treatment. This type of procedure would be scheduled through the Cardiovascular Center in Ann Arbor. Our patient services assistants will schedule your initial appointment with Dr. Thomas Wakefield, head of the University of Michigan section of Vascular Surgery.

Compression Stockings
All of our patients are encouraged to wear pressure gradient compression stockings. Whichever treatment plan is prescribed, compression stockings will be an integral part of making it a success. Compression stockings are used to bring relief to symptoms, such as swelling, aching and heaviness.
