Dr. Upchurch joined the University of Michigan Department of Surgery, Section of Vascular Surgery as an Assistant Professor in 1999. He graduated with a BA in history from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, and continued there to complete his medical degree in 1991. He relocated to Boston that same year to complete his General Surgery residency at Harvard University's, Brigham and Women's Hospital. He became Chief Resident in the 1997-1998 academic year, and proceeded into the Homans Vascular Surgery Fellowship the following year. Dr. Upchurch has won praise for his mentoring abilities, receiving the House Staff and Fellows Award for Excellence in Clinical Teaching in Surgery 2000, the American Surgical Association Foundation Fellowship for 2000 - 2002, the Ralph A. Deterling Jr. Award and the Excellence in Teaching Award in 1998. Dr. Upchurch's interests include all of vascular surgery, with a special emphasis on surgery for aortic aneurysm, including endovascular repair of abdominal aortic aneurysm. |
