Going to the Operating Room (OR)

You've been scheduled for the OR by our clinic staff. Here is important information for:

Outpatient OR procedures

Arrive at least 1 hour before your scheduled time. You need to check in at Admissions, on the fourth floor of the Cardiovascular Center.

Bring:

  • your blue hospital card
  • a change of clothes
  • If your wear glasses, contacts, dentures or a hearing aid, bring along a case to put them in during the procedure
  • A book (for distraction while you're waiting)

Do not bring:

  • jewelry, credit cards or valuables

Reminders:

  • You may shower prior to leaving home but do not wear makeup or nail polish.
  • We recommend no smoking 48 hours prior to your procedure.
  • After midnight you should have nothing to eat. This includes gum, candy, breath mints, coffee or food of any kind. You may drink clear fluids up to 4am if approved in advance by your pre-operative nurse.
  • You should monitor your health carefully prior to your procedure. If you develop a cold, fever or flu like symptoms, call the clinic office prior to 4pm at (888) 287-1082 or the operating room desk after 4pm at (734) 232-4540.

Admitting will review your demographic information & direct you from there. Those accompanying you can wait in the surgery waiting room, where they will be kept informed about your progress. There are a few computer terminals available in that room if needed.

Inpatient OR procedures

Arrive at least 2 hours before your scheduled start time. You need to check in at Admissions, on the fourth floor of the Cardiovascular Center.

Bring:

  • your blue hospital card
  • a change of clothes
  • If your wear glasses, contacts, dentures or a hearing aid, bring along a case to put them in during the procedure
  • A book or other distraction
  • Toothbrush
  • Any personal amenities that you might prefer to hospital goods.

Do not bring:

  • jewelry, credit cards or valuables
