BiographyDr. Reddy is currently working with Dr. Beer, of Thoracic Oncology, and Dr. Wicha, the Director of the Cancer Center, looking at Cancer Stem Cells in lung cancer. He is studying ways to identify cancer stem cells from primary tissue and to target novel molecular pathways based on the cancer stem cell model. His goal is to develop this model with a translational goal of bringing new therapeutics to the clinic and changing lung cancer outcomes from disease where only 25% of patients are potential surgical candidates. He is also interested in maintaining and increasing our section's clinical trial and database participation. Nationally, he is working on improving recruitment into the field of cardiothoracic surgery and is researching career motivations for the Millenial Generation and beyond. He currently runs the Cardiothoracic Facebook Fan Page for the Recruitment committee of the Joint Council for Thoracic Surgery Education. Rishindra M. Reddy, M.D. earned his medical degree at Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois, and completed his general surgery residency at Washington University Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. His surgical residency training was interrupted by two years of research as a Clinical Fellow at the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, Maryland. He completed his Thoracic Surgery residency at the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington this year. Dr. Reddy's clinical interests include all aspects of general thoracic surgery including thoracic oncology, minimally invasive techniques, pectus repair and therapy for end-stage lung disease including transplantation and lung volume reduction surgery. His academic interests include thoracic oncogenesis. |
