Cardiac And Thoracic Surgery Facilities

Inpatient

The Adult Cardiac and Thoracic Surgery Services at the University Hospital share a l4 bed intensive care unit on 4D North, 36 beds on 4C and 4B (all of which are monitored), and may use additional intensive care beds in the Surgery I.C.U. on 5D North. The Adult Cardiac Surgery Service operates five days a week in operating rooms 7 and 6, and one day a week in room 4. The Thoracic Surgery Service operates five days a week in operating room l, two days a week in room 4, and one day a week in room 10. The Pediatric Cardiovascular Surgery Service operates five days a week in rooms 7 and 8 at the Mott Hospital. The pediatric service has its own 12 bed I.C.U. located in the Maternal Child Health Center and 6 moderate care and 15 general care beds (all of which are monitored) in the adjacent Mott Hospital. Sleeping rooms and offices for the residents are available in both hospitals. The Veterans' Hospital thoracic surgery services operates four days a week, and has a six bed dedicated I.C.U.

Outpatient

New adult patient referrals and post-operative follow-up patients are seen in the outpatient clinics in the Taubman Center. Adult Cardiac Surgery outpatients are seen Monday through Friday. Lung Transplant Outpatients are seen on Tuesday, and Thoracic Surgery outpatients are seen on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Pediatric Cardiovascular Surgery outpatients are seen on Wednesday and Thursday in the Mott Hospital Expansion. Pediatric Transplant Outpatients are seen on Tuesday.

Support Spaces

The Adult Cardiac and Thoracic Surgery Services have their offices for faculty and residents on the second floor of the Taubman Health Center. The Pediatric Cardiac Surgery faculty offices are located on the seventh floor of the Mott Expansion. The Surgery Department Library, located adjacent to our offices, includes the Cameron Haight Thoracic Library collection and is available as a resource for our staff. The Thoracic Surgery Residents video film library is housed in the Resident Room located in the Taubman Office Suite.
