Minimally Invasive Surgery
Learn More About Video Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery (Video)
Minimally invasive thoracic surgery is now possible because of refinements in video endoscopic instrumentation and equipment used for thoracoscopy (video assisted thoracic surgery or VATS). VATS is now used routinely in thoracic oncology patients in the evaluation, biopsy and treatment of pleural disease, mediastinal adenopathy or masses, treatment of malignant pericardial effusions and excisional biopsy of indeterminate pulmonary nodules to exclude bronchogenic or metastatic lung cancer.
