Lung TransplantThe University of Michigan Medical Center's Lung Transplant Program is the largest in Michigan and one of the largest in the nation. Our program is fully certified by the United Network for Organ Sharing. Lung transplantation, done primarily for emphysema and pulmonary fibrosis, is allowing patients with debilitating dyspnea to return to productive lives. Three to four new patients are evaluated for lung transplantation each week in our multi-disciplinary program which involves a coordinated effort of thoracic surgeons, pulmonologists, nurses, and social workers. A full compliment of ancillary personnel including pharmacists, discharge planners, occupational therapists, physical therapists, respiratory therapists, and billing representatives participate in the management of the lung transplant patients.
