Biography

Raja S Mahidhara, MD is an Assistant Professor of Surgery at the University of Michigan. After graduating from Harvard University in 1991 Magna Cum Laude, he completed his medical education at the University of Pittsburgh with AOA honors. Dr Mahidhara completed his residency in general surgery at the University of Pittsburgh in 2004. During this time he obtained a grant from the Thoracic Society Foundation for Research and Education to study the impact of nitric oxide and gene therapy in heart transplantation with Richard L Simmons, MD. He continued his training at UCLA, completing a residency in Cardiothoracic Surgery and a fellowship in Lung Transplantation in 2006. Afterwards, he joined the Section of Thoracic Surgery at UCLA as a Clinical Instructor and was promoted to Assistant Professor of Surgery in January of 2007.

Dr. Mahidhara's clinical interests include all aspects of general thoracic surgery including thoracic oncology, minimally invasive techniques, pectus repair and therapy for end-stage lung disease including transplantation and lung volume reduction surgery. His academic interests include basic and translational research in end-stage lung diseases and lung transplantation.
