Biography

Dr. Pickens is an Assistant Professor in the Section of Thoracic Surgery at the University of Michigan. He is director of the Minimally Invasive Pulmonary Resection Program and Thoracic Surgery Workforce Coordinator.

He was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Alabama who received his undergraduate degree in 1990 and his medical degree 1995. He completed his general surgery residency at the University of Alabama in 2002 and his thoracic surgery residency at the University of Michigan in 2004. He subsequently completed a fellowship in minimally invasive pulmonary resection at Cedar-Sinai Hospital in 2004.

Dr. Pickens specializes in general thoracic surgery including: minimally invasive pulmonary resections, sympathectomy for hyperhidrosis, lung transplantation, esophageal surgery and other surgical diseases of the chest.

His research interests include clinical outcome studies and translational research.
