Esophageal - Benign

Our goal is to return our patients to the care of their referring physician/primary care physician as soon as possible.

For a patient who has undergone an operation for a benign esophageal condition (eg, a hiatal hernia or esophagomyotomy for achalasia), this is normally within 1-2 months of the operation.

After this, we recommend a routine health maintenance physical examination, monitoring the patient for reflux symptoms, and for otherwise asymptomatic patients, a barium swallow after one year; then two years after that, and then after another two years to complete five years of follow-up.
