biography

Ramon Berguer's projects evolve around the creation of constitutive mathematical models of aortic aneurysm and dissection. These models are constructed with patient-specific geometries derived from CT scans. They permit us to study the mechanical behavior of patient's aorta under different physiological conditions and, as such, to anticipate the site and likelihood of rupture of an aneurysm or the behavior of a virtual endograft inside a patient's aorta. All the mathematical assumption imbedded in the numerical model are tested in a fluid model powered by a mechanical cardiac pump and built using a polymer (PDMS) into which we can dial the specific elastic values of a person's aorta.
