biography

Dr. Raghavendran is an Associate Professor of Surgery in the Division of Acute Care Surgery, Section of General Surgery. Dr. Raghavendran received his medical education at the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) in Pondicherry, India. He completed his surgical residency at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit and his fellowship in surgical critical care at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. Previously, Dr. Raghavendran served as an attending trauma surgeon at University at Buffalo, SUNY where he was promoted to Associate Professor in July 2007.

Dr. Raghavendran is funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) as a recipient of a National Institutes of General Medical Science (NIGMS) Mentored Clinical Scientist K award from 2006. He has also received funding for a RO-1 awarded through NHLBI. His current laboratory research focuses on studying the chemokines associated with lung contusion and its interaction with gastric aspiration. The focuses of his clinical interests are with ARDS and ventilator-associated pneumonia.

  1. Lung contusion-Inflammatory mechanisms and interaction with gastric aspiration.
  2. Role of chemokines in Lung contusion 3. Toll-like receptors in lung contusion with and without bacterial pneumonia 4. Surfactant dysfunction and replacement in Lung contusion.
