Dr. Lin's research interests include investigating the molecular biology of esophageal and lung carcinoma and translating these findings into new techniques for screening, staging, and tailoring therapies for individual patients. Currently, Dr. Lin is working in collaboration with David Beer, PhD in investigating the molecular changes involved in the pathogenesis of thoracic malignancies. He has a particular interest in the changes involved in the progression from Barrett's metaplasia to esophageal adenocarcinoma. As a member of the Thoracic Tumor Biology Laboratory, he hopes to translate these results into tailored therapies for patients with tumors expressing specific molecular targets and to discover novel diagnostic, staging and treatment modalities. Through his research, Dr. Lin has identified several novel molecular changes involved in the pathogenesis of esophageal adenocarcinoma including the overexpression of melanoma associated antigens (MAGE), the L-type amino acid transporter-1 (LAT-1), and the ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme E2C (UBE2C) as well as investigating specific inhibitors and potential therapeutic agents.
