In recent years, the Department of Surgery has experienced tremendous growth and rejuvenation with promotions, new faculty and corresponding new clinical and research programs. Today, the Department consists of seven sections - General Surgery (including Gastrointestinal Surgery, Endocrine and Critical Care, Surgical Oncology, Trauma Burn Emergency), Maxillofacial Surgery, Pediatric Surgery, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Thoracic Surgery, Transplantation Surgery and Vascular Surgery. The Department trains over 140 residents and fellows through residency programs in General Surgery, Pediatric Surgery, Plastic Surgery, Thoracic Surgery, and Vascular Surgery and fellowships in Hand Surgery, Cranio-facial Surgery, Breast Surgery, Transplantation and Vascular Surgery.
The faculty are distinguished by numerous national and international scientific presentations, visiting professorships and peer reviewed research awards and publications. The research training programs of the Department attract outstanding House Officers from the most prestigious medical schools in the country, and our own medical student teaching program in surgery stimulates a strong interest in surgery.
We look forward to continued academic, clinical, and research success with our exceptional group of faculty, staff physicians, residents, administrators, and staff.
