Proper Positioning for Booster Seats
Any safety device is only as good as its application. To make the most of
belt-positioning booster seats, you must be certain that the seat and the
seat belt are used correctly. Use these guidelines to ensure proper usage:
- Proper Positioning
- Top belt is between neck and shoulder
- Lap belt touches thigh
- Properly positioned belts allow the strong bones of the body to take the load of the force during a crash
- If lap belt is too high or the child slouches, the belt compresses the soft and vulnerable abdominal organs and stresses the spine.
- Improper Positioning (Things kids often do)
- Shoulder belt behind the back
- Shoulder belt under the arm
- Shoulder belt across the neck
- Slouched in seat
- Lap belt across abdomen
- Lap belt worn loosely
