Safe Routes 2 School

Program Website

Children get less and less exercise these days. Although walking to school is the perfect way to start the day with fresh air and a brisk walk, the roads between home and school can be hazardous to young, adventurous and inexperienced walkers. Safe Routes 2 School is a program sponsored by C.S. Mott Children's Hospital dedicated to providing children with a safe way to get to school. Safe Routes 2 School helps parents navigate the safest way to get to school, and also assists schools in setting up "Walking School Buses" and "Bike Trains", organized bike rides to and from school. In addition to encouraging healthy physical activity, this program helps reduce traffic congestion and pollution.

International Walk to School Day is October 8, 2008. Click here for information about registering your school for this event.
