Welcome to Pediatric Trauma

Injuries from trauma are the leading cause of death and disability in children.

C. S. Mott Children's Hospital has been verified as a Level 1 Trauma Center since 1990, and is one of only 29 pediatric trauma centers in the US with this verification. Our program was recently re-verified in February, 2009. This verification system was created by The Committee on Trauma of the American College of Surgeons in 1987. This system ensures that trauma centers provide the necessary resources to care for the most seriously injured patients from pre-hospital care through rehabilitation.

Medical staff at a Level 1 trauma center must stay current on trauma practices by obtaining continuing education credits. In addition to remaining current, the system must constantly evaluate itself, its staff and its programs to ensure that the best possible care is provided to all trauma patients.

Staff in Level 1 verified trauma centers are active in research and educating the community in injury prevention. Here at Mott Hospital we are active in Safe Kids Huron Valley, we have our own BuckleUp! Program and we are present in the area schools educating students on ways to avoid being a victim of trauma.
