Dr. Yang's research interest focuses on the nutritional complications of total parenteral and enteral nutrition (TPN). He continuously collaborates with Dr. Daniel H. Teitelbaum regarding the investigation of changes in gut barrier function and gut immunity with TPN. Specifically, he investigates how TPN-associated intestinal intraepithelial lymphocyte changes affect alterations in intestinal epithelial physiology; and to understand the mechanisms which lead to these changes, and find methods to prevent such problems.
