Pediatric Surgery Critical Care FellowshipThe Section of Pediatric Surgery at the University of Michigan offers a one-year ACGME approved fellowship in Surgical Critical Care. Two positions are offered on an annual basis. This fellowship is designed for applicants who have completed their General Surgery residency and desire further experience and training in the post-operative care of the pediatric critically ill patient. Upon successful completion of the fellowship, trainees are eligible to take the Surgical Critical Care Certifying Examination. The fellows spend eight months of their allotted time at the CS Mott Children's Hospital, where they provide care to surgical patients admitted to both the Neonatal and Pediatric Intensive Care Units. This unique opportunity provides the trainee with ample exposure to the post-operative care and management of complex surgical patients including those with necrotizing enterocolitis, trauma, and congenital defects such as gastroschisis, congenital diaphragmatic hernia, and tracheoesophageal fistula, amongst many others. Moreover, the fellows have the opportunity to manage patients on ECMO, further enhancing their critical care armamentarium. The additional three months are spent at the University Hospital caring for the critically ill and injured adult.
