Fellowship Training
The formal two year training in Pediatric Surgery Residency includes formal rotations in the following specialties:
- Neonatology
- Pediatric Urology
- Pediatric Anesthesiology
- Pediatric Cardiac Surgery
As well, we have developed a series of formalized training sessions for each resident to enhance their training. This includes the following courses offered at our University and outside our hospital. These will help in providing a broad training for the resident, meet RRC requirements and insure the resident will be able to provide the best possible care for their infants and children.
- Fundamentals of Laparoscopy - via our University of Michigan Simulation Center
- Da Vinci Robotic surgery training - via our training robot and Da vinci personnel
- ECMO training course - via our ECMO training team
- Formal training in routine and advanced ventilator support for neonates - via our Respiratory Services team
- Ethics in Pediatric Surgery lecture series
- Outside the hospital, residents will attend:
- St. Jude's Oncology Course, Memphis Tenn.
- Pena Course on Anorectal Malformations, Cincinnati, OH
- American Academy of Pediatrics or American Pediatric Surgery Association yearly meetings
- All residents will be PALS, ATLS and ACLS certified at the start of their training.
