Ronald B. Hirschl, M.D., is the Arnold G. Coran Professor of Surgery and Head of the Section of Pediatric Surgery at the University of Michigan as well as the Surgeon-in-Chief of Mott Children's Hospital. He trained in Pediatric Surgery at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and joined the staff at the University of Michigan in 1991. Dr. Hirschl is board certified in General Surgery, Pediatric Surgery, and Surgical Critical Care and has his Master's in Clinical Research Design and Statistical Analysis. His research and clinical areas of interest and expertise are in the management of respiratory failure, especially with extracorporeal support (ECLS, ECMO), the implantable artificial lung, and liquid ventilation with perfluorocarbons. Dr. Hirschl also has expertise in applied informatics and serves as the Chief Medical Information Officer for the University of Michigan. He is a member of the Organization of the Children's Hospitals Surgeons-in-Chief and finished his term as the Secretary of the American Pediatric Surgery Association (APSA) this past May. Dr. Hirschl is currently a Director on the American Board of Surgery. |
