Dressing Changes/Wound Packing

  • Dressing changes are usually done 2 times per day.
  • Remove old packing. Please have child shower/tub bathe and cleanse area with antibacterial soap and water.
  • Repack wound with fine mesh gauze and cover with a sterile 2x2 or 4x4.

Medications

  • Premedicate with Tylenol or Motrin/Advil as directed.

When should I call the Pediatric Surgery office to speak with a nurse?

  • Fever > 100.5° F
  • Increased redness
  • Tenderness
  • Any unusual drainage or odor from wound.
