Upper Gastrointestinal (Barium Swallow Study)

Age: 0-2 years

Nothing by mouth, three hours prior to the exam.

Age: 3-17 years

• No solid foods after midnight. Only clear liquids are allowed up to five hours prior to the exam.
• Nothing by mouth, five hours prior to the exam.
• FORMULA IS NOT A CLEAR LIQUID!!!

Medication for all children

Medications should be taken as directed by the physician. Those medications which need to be taken with water should be taken with as little as possible.

Note

Please tell us if your child is diabetic, so we may make special arrangements.
