Ultrasound: Abdominal, Gallbladder, Liver

This is especially critical for patients having an ultrasound of the bladder:

  • 0-3 years: Nothing to eat or drink for 4 hours prior to the exam.
  • 4-12 years: Nothing to eat or drink for 6 hours prior to the exam.
  • 13 & older: Nothing to eat or drink for 8 hours prior to the exam.

Pelvic Ultrasound

  • Requires a full bladder.
  • Patient should not urinate for one hour prior to the exam, and should drink additional fluids.
  • 0-8 years: Drink as much as possible
  • 9-12 years: 16 ounces.
  • 12 & older: 32 ounces.

Note

Please tell us if your child is diabetic, so that we can make special arrangements.
