Post-Operative Follow Up

Your surgeon will want to have your child return to our offices for many of the surgical procedures which are performed. In some cases his/her follow up may be safely performed by your own pediatrician or family doctor. Instructions as to when and how you should follow up will be given to you before you leave the hospital.

For many surgeries, including for the removal of routine lumps and bumps, hernias, hydrocoeles, and acute appendicitis, our nurse practitioner, Bess Costos, will be the healthcare provider who will see your child for the post-operative visit. If she finds anything unusual during this visit, she will contact either your surgeon or one of their associates for further evaluation.

For children who have more complicated care or complex surgeries, your child will be seen directly by your surgeon, during one of their office hours.

If you encounter problems prior to your scheduled visit, or after this visit, please call our office number: 734-764-4151. You will be directed to a healthcare professional that will be able to answer your concerns. In general, one of our nurses will be often be able to speak directly to you during the daytime office hours.

For many of our families whose children have had feeding access placed by our surgeons, we will initially help facilitate care and advancement of his/her feedings. Our staff will always be available to care for feeding tube and access site problems. However, once your child is stable, it is generally best for him/her to have feedings adjusted by their own pediatrician or family practice physician. Your surgeon will inform you when this transition point will take place.
