

Meconium Plug SyndromePatients with the meconium plug syndrome often present with a distended abdomen and yellow/green vomiting. X-ray study with dye placed into the colon via the rectum demonstrates thick meconium (stool) plugs in the colon and/or rectum and may often treat the problem by providing mechanical evacuation of the meconium plugs. In general, this disease is observed in premature newborns who are otherwise normal. However, cystic fibrosis and Hirschsprung's disease may be associate with process and should be excluded.
