Your Appointment at St. Joseph Mercy Health System

Thank you for your interest in the Pediatric Surgery Department at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital. In cooperation with the University of Michigan Department of Pediatric Surgery, we are pleased to offer general surgery services to patients between the ages of 1 month and 18 years. Our dedicated staff is committed to making your child's surgical experience as safe and stress-free as possible. Information provided on this website is intended to answer many of the questions you may have regarding your child's appointment with the surgeon.

Making an Appointment

The vast majority of our patients are referred to us by area pediatricians or from Emergency Department physicians. Our office is located in Suite 2110 of the Reichert Health Building, on the east end of the St. Joseph Mercy Hospital campus. Office hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. To schedule an appointment for your child, please call (734) 712-5523. The initial visit is generally a consultation; if surgery is necessary it will be scheduled at a later date.

Once an appointment is made, you will need to pre-register your child. Please call (734) 712-7000 or toll-free (877) 791-2051 between the hours of 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. Pre-registration updates your child's information in our computers, so please have insurance information readily available when you call. The location code for Pediatric Surgery appointments is RHPS.

Health Insurance

Pediatric Surgery Associates and St. Joseph Mercy Hospital accept most major insurances, however, many health insurance plans require you to have a referral in order to see the Pediatric Surgeon. If your insurance plan requires it, it is your responsibility to ensure that a valid referral reaches our office prior to the day of the appointment. Your primary care physician may fax referrals at any time to our office at (734) 712-5625. If a referral has not reached our office by the time of your appointment, you will be asked to sign a waiver, making you responsible for payment for any services provided by this office. The Day of Your Appointment

The Pediatric Surgery Clinic is located in Suite 2110 of the Reichert Health Building on the St. Joseph Mercy Hospital campus. You may park free of charge in Visitor Lot J. If you need directions, please call our office at (734) 712-5523. We will be happy to mail or fax you a map to our campus. Please bring your child's insurance card and any relevant medical records with you to your appointment.
