Our clinic focuses on coordinating the nutritional and gastrointestinal care of infants and children who suffer from short bowel syndrome or intestinal failure from either malabsorption or dysmotility. We provide for routine monitoring of parenteral and enteral nutrition, work closely with patients in making transitions off TPN, and carefully select patients who may benefit from bowel lengthening procedures. Our team also receives support from Child Psychiatry and Occupational Therapy for working with children who have eating disorders.

The Children's intestinal Rehabilitation Program (CHIRP) is composed of a multi-disciplinary clinical team specializing in the treatment of children with short bowel syndrome and intestinal failure. This clinical team consists of a Pediatric Gastroenterologist, Pediatric Surgeon, Registered Dieticians, Registered Nurse, Clinical Pharmacist and a Clinical Social Worker.

This program is co-directed by Pamela I. Brown, M.D., Associate Professor of Pediatrics and Communicable Diseases and Dr. Daniel H. Teitelbaum, Professor of Surgery.
