At just 21 years old, Betsy Hoort was a strong and vibrant young woman with a bright future ahead of her. Until a bout with what she thought was the flu turned into something much worse: Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS). After a two-month battle with the illness, Betsy passed away. December 8, 2009 – Update: Raising Money and Hope for Esophageal Cancer Research

The Jamie Osher Memorial Fund for Research in Esophageal Cancer has raised more than $24-thousand to date and will in part fund a new educational video filmed at the University of Michigan Esophagectomy Support Group meetings, highlighting common experiences of patients and their families before and after surgery for esophageal cancer and discussing strategies for coping with this often fatal illness. On October 8, 2009, the U-M Burn Center celebrated 50 years of innovation, research, and exceptional patient care.“The founders of the Burn Center 50 years ago were visionary,” Wang said. “The original missions and values remain true and relevant: exceptional patient care, multidisciplinary teamwork, translational research, injury prevention and community outreach, and education.” Read the full article.
