Marilia Cascalho, MD, Associate Professor of Surgery and Microbiology and Immunology, received a “Grand Challenges Explorations” Grant from the Gates Foundation to create new ways to prevent or cure HIV infection. She is currently testing a “mutable” DNA vaccine against HIV. -
October 16, 2008 – ACS Sheen Award presented to John D. Birkmeyer

The American College of Surgeons presented John D. Birkmeyer, MD, the George D. Zuidema Professor of Surgery and Chair of Surgical Research, with the 2008 Sheen Award during the annual ACS convention. This award honors physicians who have made outstanding contributions to mankind through the fields of medicine and medical research.
