

![]() ExternshipsOral & Maxillofacial Surgery ExternshipThe University of Michigan Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery offers an externship program to dental students who are interested in pursuing a career in oral and maxillofacial surgery. The duration of the externship is from one to four weeks. During this period the extern will gain insight life of a resident by attending morning rounds, daily clinics, operating room cases, trauma call, and all educational activities. This experience will provide the student with the opportunity to evaluate his/her own interest in the specialty of oral and maxillofacial surgery and, in particular, our program. We accept externs at any time throughout the year with up to three externs for any given time period. Externships are offered on a first come first served basis. To qualify, you should have completed a basic clinical course in oral and maxillofacial surgery and be competent in dentoalveolar surgery and the administration of local anesthesia. You should also be in good academic standing.Requirements:

Our program will provide you with familiarity in diagnosis and clinical skills that are required to treat medically compromised dental patients. You will be exposed to minor procedures performed in our clinic and also in cases performed in the operating room at the University of Michigan Hospital. Please submit the following information:
