Bin Hu, M.D., Ph.D. is a Research Investigator in the Section of General Surgery at the University of Michigan Health Systems. Dr. Hu received his medical degree in 1982 from the Binzhou Medical College in China. From 1982 to 1992, Dr. Hu was a member of the Department of Pediatrics at Binzhou Medical College. In 1989, Dr. Hu received his M.S. degree in Hematology from the Tianjin Medical College in China. In 1998, he received his Ph.D. at Shinshu University School of Medicine in Japan. Dr. Hu came to the University of Michigan in 1998 as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Department of Internal Medicine, Pulmonary & Critical Care Division. In 2001, he became a Research Investigator in the same Department. Dr. Hu joined the faculty of the Department of Surgery, Division of Gastrointestinal Surgery, in September of 2005. Dr. Hu's research interests was macrophage phagocytosis of apoptotic cells. He found that alveolar macrophage were specifically deficient in ingestion of apoptotic cells relative to other targets compared with peritoneal macrophage. The deficiency was partially due to alveolar macrophage reduced initial adhesion and in part due to marked reduction in the expression of protein kinase C b II, which is necessary for apoptotic cell ingestion. Now Dr. Hu is concentrated on the in vivo study of hepatocellular carcinoma. |
