biography

Natalie Rizk MD, PhD is Clinical Lecturer and the Breast Surgical Oncology Fellow at the University of Michigan. Dr. Rizk received both her Medical Degree and Doctorate Degree from Wayne State University-School of Medicine. She completed her General Surgery Residency at Beaumont Health Systems. She is quite passionate about education and giving back to the community. She was active in varying didactic series and mentorship programs throughout Graduate School, Medical School, and General Surgery Residency and now in Fellowship. The majority of her graduate and postgraduate research has been presented at national meetings and has been published in peer-reviewed journals. She has served on editorial boards, multiple educational committees and has published a book chapter. In graduate school she received the Dean’s Research Excellence Award for her research in the metabolic perturbations and the subsequent response to focal ischemic-reperfusion injury. Her most recent research examines gender differences in mortality following ischemic-reperfusion injury. She hopes to expand her research now and examine the relationship of metabolomics and cancer. She received her Bachelor’s Degree with Honors, majoring in Biochemistry from the University of Michigan.
