Fumito Ito, M.D., Ph.D. is an Assistant Professor of Surgery in the Section of General Surgery at the University of Michigan. Dr. Ito received his MD and PhD from the Shiga University in Japan. He completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Tumor Immunology at the University of Michigan in 2003. His general surgery residency was obtained at the University of Washington Medical Center (2003-2005) and the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics (2005-2008). He then completed a fellowship in Surgical Oncology at the Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo, NY, and joined the General Surgery faculty at the University of Michigan in 2011. He is board certified in General Surgery.
Dr. Ito's clinical interests encompass all aspects of general surgery including surgical oncology and minimally invasive surgery. His special interests includes surgical care for the melanoma, sarcoma, neoplasm of the stomach, small intestine, colon, rectum, biliary tract, pancreas and peritoneal carcinomatosis.
His major research interests have been largely focused on Tumor Immunology with special interests in Cancer Immunotherapy and Tumor Microenvironment.
