biography

Barbra S. Miller, M.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Endocrine Surgery, Section of General Surgery. Dr. Miller received her medical degree from the University of Cincinnati College Of Medicine and went on to complete both an internship and a residency in general surgery at University of Texas Southwestern in Dallas, Texas. Dr. Miller was the First Norman W. Thompson, M.D., Fellow in Endocrine Surgery at University of Michigan. She then served as Assistant Professor in the Endocrine Surgery Division at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio before re-joining the University of Michigan Department of Surgery in 2007. Her entire practice is focused on endocrine surgery. She is a member of the multidisciplinary endocrine oncology team.

Clinical Interests

Dr. Miller performs standard open operations for all endocrine disorders as well as minimally invasive surgery techniques including laparoscopic adrenalectomy (anterior transperitoneal and posterior retroperitoneal), minimally invasive video-assisted thyroidectomy, and minimally invasive parathyroidectomy. Much of Dr. Miller's practice includes complex reoperative thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal surgery.

Research Interests

Dr. Miller's research interests include adrenal cancer and other benign adrenal disorders, thyroid cancer, Graves' disease, intraoperative parathyroid hormone monitoring and hormone kinetics, use of ultrasound in clinical practice and student and resident education, and prediction of clinical outcomes based on analytical morphomics.
