Dr. Culbertson will be investigating the role of mechanical strain on the proliferative and synthetic function of fibroblasts isolated from disrupted laparotomy wounds leading to hernia formation. His lab promotes a reconsideration of the teaching that a tension free repair is ideal, and suggest that an appropriate load-force is in fact required to signal efficient abdominal wall wound repair.
