First Year Goals and Objectives
The U-M First Year General Surgery Residency consists of rotating through the core general surgery services, to provide a broad introduction to surgery and surgical care.
- At this level the resident takes an active part in patient evaluation and management
- He/she will often be responsible for the initial history and physical and will participate actively in the operative procedure
- He/she also will have an active role in post-operative management
- Activities are carefully supervised by the senior resident and attending physicians
- He/she will complete a detailed skill development curriculum in the Clinical Simulation Center
