Rotation-Specific Training
Rotations are self-contained educational opportunities, providing specific teaching on appropriate topics.
- Nine specialty conferences are held on a weekly to monthly basis, designed specifically for residents rotating on those services but open to all trainees.
- Weekly teaching rounds are held on the six primary general surgery services at the integrated hospitals. Trainees rotating at the affiliated hospitals and on specialty rotations are expected to attend conferences held at these sites.
- Regular general surgery and specialty conferences are also held at the Veterans Administration Hospital. Residents rotating through the VA Hospital attend these conferences, which include service teaching conferences on both general and vascular surgery services, Morbidity and Mortality Conference, ICU Rounds, and Vascular Surgery Conference.
- In addition to conferences held at the integrated institutions listed above, each of the affiliated institutions has its own program of instruction in general surgery. Residents assigned to rotations at affiliated hospitals are expected to participate actively in regularly offered conferences.
