Research Training

After the third year of clinical training, residents enter a two year period of Academic Development Time (ADT). The two years are spent pursuing some activity that will substantially contribute to the ultimate academic pursuits of the trainee. This may be comprised of laboratory research, surgical outcomes research or other investigative endeavors.

  • There is a weekly Research Conference during which ongoing research in the department is presented and discussed.
  • Residents regularly present data at Research Conferences. Residents presenting information, basic or clinical, at regional or national meetings are asked to make preliminary presentations to surgical faculty so that constructive criticism can be provided .
