They are asked to evaluate both the educational quality of the rotations and of the individual faculty themselves. Trainees are evaluated monthly in a Clinical Performance Evaluation, which is based on the ACGME general competencies. Residents receive separate and frequent evaluation on their professionalism, and global assessment of their technical skills. The effectiveness of the educational program is assessed on an individual basis and on an institutional basis by evaluating resident performance on the yearly American Board of Surgery In Service Training Exam. Individual residents with poor results are counseled, and specific reading programs are designed to remedy deficiencies. A review of the ABSITE results is also done annually to identify programmatic weaknesses. A yearly oral examination in general surgery is conducted for third, fourth and fifth year residents. Feedback is provided to each resident on individual performance. |
