Michael S. Sabel, MD is an Assistant Professor of Surgery in the Division of Surgical Oncology. Dr. Sabel received his Bachelors degree from Pennsylvania State University and a medical degree from Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia. Postgraduate training in General Surgery was received at Rush-Presbyterian- St. Luke's Medical Center in Chicago. Dr. Sabel completed an NIH-T32 research fellowship in tumor immunology an a clinical surgical oncology fellowship at Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo, NY. Dr. Sabel joined the faculty at the University of Michigan in 2001. Dr. Sabel's clinical interests are expressed in the area of surgical oncology. He has special expertise in breast cancer and melanoma. Special interests include the in situ ablation of breast cancer and the use of immunotherapy in the treatment of breast cancer and melanoma. Dr. Sabel is also extensively involved in both clinical and basic science research at the University of Michigan. He is the Director of the University of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center Breast Cancer Clinical Outcomes Database, and serves on the UMCCC Protocol Review Committee. Dr. Sabel is the principal investigator on several clinical trials in breast cancer and melanoma. In addition to his clinical research interests, he runs a research laboratory that has been exploring the generation of systemic immune responses from local therapies. |
