Mary B. Benedict, M.D., is Assistant Professor in the Section of General Surgery at University of Michigan Medical School. Dr. Benedict received her MD degree in 1992 from Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis. She did her internship at Indiana University Medical Center and completed her General Surgery training at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan, in 1999. From July 1996 to June of 1997, Dr. Benedict did a Research Fellowship in Thoracic Surgery at the University of Michigan Medical Center. She is board certified in general surgery.

In 1999 Dr. Benedict entered private group practice of general surgery, joining the staffs of a number of Ohio hospitals, including St. Luke's Hospital and Surgicare Ambulatory Surgery Center in Maumee, Toledo Hospital, St. Vincent's Hospital, and the Medical College of Ohio, as well as Flower Hospital in Sylvania, Ohio. In January of 2000, she became the Co-Director of the ICU at St. Luke's Hospital in Maumee, Ohio, and from August 2001 to July 2002, Dr. Benedict was appointed Clinical Preceptor at Medical College of Ohio.

Dr. Benedict joined the staff of St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor and the St. Joseph Mercy Livingston Hospital in Howell in November of 2002. She joined the faculty in the Section of General Surgery at University of Michigan in October 2005. Dr. Benedict's chief clinical interests are in ambulatory surgery. Her practice encompasses a diverse range of general surgical problems and procedures that can be provided in an outpatient setting. Dr. Benedict's sees patients in the U of M Brighton Health Center, Brighton, MI.
