Justin B. Dimick, MD, MPH, a graduate of Cornell University and Johns Hopkins Medical School, completed his residency training in general surgery at the University of Michigan and joined the faculty as an Assistant Professor in 2007. During his training, he completed a two-year fellowship in health services research and received his MPH degree at Dartmouth. Dr Dimick practices general and gastrointestinal surgery at the Ann Arbor Veterans Affairs hospital. His clinical interests include benign and neoplastic diseases of the stomach, pancreas, biliary tract, small intestine, and colon; hernias and abdominal wall reconstruction; and advanced laparoscopy. Dr Dimick's research focuses on quality improvement and health policy issues in surgery. He is a co-investigator on two NIH grants that address important barriers to quality improvement: 1) most existing measures of surgical performance are flawed; and 2) the details of care that contribute to good performance are largely unknown. He has served as a quality improvement consultant to the Leapfrog Group, a coalition of private payers, and the Institute of Medicine. He currently serves on the Measurement and Evaluation committee of the American College of Surgeon's National Surgical Quality Improvement Program. |
