Transforming the Adult Bariatric Surgery Program
Posted on June 2nd, 2009 No commentsInformation on surgical weight-loss options and nutrition requirements are just a mouse click away.
Michigan MultiMedia created a number of promotional components for the U-M Adult Bariatric Surgery Program, including a completely refreshed website, informational brochure, teaser postcard and instructional video.
Sporting a streamlined look and updated content, the website was developed to provide information to patients about treatments and eligibility criteria, and help them determine the likelihood of surgery as an option. And to provide patients with detailed, sometimes life-saving instruction on dietary habits and restrictions pre- and post-surgery, M3 also created a nutritional video that is available online. With improved patients understanding comes decreased phone consultation time for both professional and administrative staff, allowing more focus for patients already in the Program.
In visual harmony with the website, M3 designed a companion brochure and postcard which spotlight real patient successes through dramatic before and after photographs. The postcard in particular has been instrumental in creating awareness and generating new patients for the Program, having been mailed to the entire UMHS campus community.

LVC Marketing Efforts Inject 100+ New Patients
Posted on May 12th, 2009 No commentsTargeted Mailings to U-M Employees and Online Ads Result Major Gains in New Patient Referrals
With local competition increasing, the Livonia Vein Center (LVC) sought methods to develop new patient referrals. The LVC partnered with our team at Michigan MultiMedia (M3) to evaluate and improve their existing print and web campaigns.
This partnership resulted in an increase of over 100 new patients in 2008 with significant growth continuing into 2009. “Everything you read about the economy says our business should be down,” says LVC clinic manager Angela Haley, “…but we continue to grow!”
After identifying three unique audiences, we developed marketing collateral and online ad campaigns that helped the LVC exceed growth expectations. The LVC’s new look and message, “Love Your Legs,” was carried across all platforms, from print to web, providing consistency no matter where the communication was viewed:
- Web design including analysis
- Google advertising and management
- Targeted mailings
- Print collateral design
- Expo collateral design

We Want You! To Join Our Residency Programs
Posted on May 1st, 2009 No commentsA desire to attract the best candidates in the nation sparks the creation of a dynamic video program.
M3 was tasked by Surgery heavyweights Dr. Michael Mulholland (Chair) and Dr. Paul Gauger (Associate Chair for Education) to create a resident recruitment video that highlights the strengths of the U-M residency programs in order to attract a wider range of prospective medical students.
With a focus on the University’s rich medical history, collegiate atmosphere and strong student-faculty relationships, the video also touches on the University Hospital’s Clinical Research Year program for residents, an optional but highly encouraged program that is individualized to specific interests and career goals. The U-M Medical School takes great pride in training residents through alternative, creative methods to surgical training versus a cookie-cutter approach, and this core philosophy is conveyed in a concise and visually exciting way.
The video took approximately three months to create, from the initial planning, scripting and filming, to final production, and has been very successful in meeting its goals. See the video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r5zpoMqChVM. Ultimately, more videos will be produced for each of the surgical sections.

Providing Information with a Heart
Posted on April 30th, 2009 No commentsPatients now have access to reliable information on cardiac disease, surgical options and U-M’s world-class cardiac surgeons through a redesigned, interactive website
After receiving a diagnosis of heart disease that requires surgery, a patient’s desire for information grows even stronger. Recognizing this, Dr. Prager and Dr. Bove of U-M Cardiac Surgery asked Michigan MultiMedia’s web team to boost the usability and quality of their website.
Cardiac Surgery wanted to engage with patients, referring physicians, and the general public. For these audiences, an updated website presented the perfect vehicle to illustrate cardiac diseases, surgical treatment options, and the expertise and caring of U-M surgeons.
We designed a site that made it easy for patients and their families to find clear and concise information and that support the goals of the section of Cardiac Surgery:
• Intuitive layout and easier-to-read language
• Patient stories and research highlights that enliven the content
• Integration with the Cardiovascular Center website
• Animated models of conditions and treatments
• Revamped disease and procedure content clearly organized as answers to common questions
• Search Engine Optimization to increase visibility on the web
• Separate areas for audiences looking for Residency and Research infoThe redesigned site serves as an information gateway between U-M Cardiac Surgery and its patients and referring physicians. It provides current medical information, highlights U-M as a destination for the surgical treatment of cardiac disease, and offers clear direction on how to become a patient at U-M.

M3 Helps the 2009 Moses Gunn Research Conference Hits Its Target
Posted on April 24th, 2009 No commentsOne example of how the M3 team can help you in all phases of a project: planning, execution, and follow-up.
Year after year, the M3 team works with the Office of Research to help make the Annual Moses Gunn Research Conference a huge success, and this year was no exception.
The full-day event featured over a dozen oral presentations, a prominent keynote address, a poster exhibit with nearly 60 presentations, and an award ceremony featuring poster award winners (and recipients of the Young Investigators Award and the James D. Crudup Award).
M3 contributed in several key areas, including design and printing of conference collateral, output of research posters, and generation a master PowerPoint presentation with a linked index of each speaker’s visual presentation. Our photographer shot photos during the day’s events and provided general and technical support. M3’s web development team created the website featuring key highlights of the conference including biographies of key speakers, the conference program including all presentations, and downloadable poster templates. And following the event, the online photo gallery was populated with photos, while discussions began on how to further improve next year’s event.
If you have an upcoming event or require marketing or informational materials produced for an event or presentation you are involved with, please give us a call at 734.936.4021 or email us at m3info@umich.edu.
